Athlete of the Month - Bill Wells

“I’d like to start by saying ‘thank you’ to the coaches for nominating me for ‘Athlete of the Month.” I’m honored and humbled.

I’m not much for social media (or even on it for that matter) other than Snap Chat. I’m also not much on speeches/statements either, but I figured I should say a little bit about myself and share my journey since I was nominated.

In January, I weighed in at 265 pounds. My XL clothes were tight, and I was about to move into 2XL clothes. I got winded going up a flight of stairs. I was overweight, ate horrible, and was depressed. This is when I decided I needed to start a new chapter in my life.

I drove by TNT Fitness a lot going to my favorite places to eat, so I was like, “Hey, this place is close to me. Why not?” I sent an email, Coach Oscar responded, and from there I became a member (my first class was February 4th) here. I started out in Swift for the first couple of months and eventually transitioned into the CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting classes. As time went on, I slowly started to develop better eating habits too. I know I still need to be a little more disciplined in this area of my life. I still eat wings/BBQ/pizza (and occasionally have a few cold ones with those types of food), but those foods are no longer a staple in my “food pyramid.” The good news is that through all these classes and eating better I’m down to 220 pounds and counting (45 lbs. lost to date).

Anyways, it’s time to wrap this up. I read somewhere once, “You can’t have a strong mind without a strong body, and you can’t have a strong body without a strong mind.” I couldn’t agree more. The one thing I learned on my journey this year is that nothing is overnight. There is no quick fix. Consistency, hard work, and permanent lifestyle changes are the only way to a healthier and happier life.

For those of you reading this and aren’t members at TNT Fitness, I encourage you to come in. This place is special and will change your life. For those of you who are members, see you all soon in class. I love working out with all of you. For the coaches, thank you for motivating me, encouraging me, correcting me on technique/form/etc., and cultivating a culture that’s amazing from the top down and is second to none. There’s no other place I’d rather be. Thanks again!“
