Athlete Of The Month - Steven Palmer

I would like to start off by saying what an honor it is to be “Athlete of the Month” at CrossFit TNT for the month of August. I would like to thank my wife Melissa, coaches, members, and owners of CrossFit TNT for being the most supportive group of people that anyone can ask for.

As most of you know, I come from a tennis background, in which, I played a summer circuit, high school, and college. I was even lucky enough to play in the National Junior College National Championships my Freshman year. I spent 13 years as a tennis teaching professional and worked with people from all around the country.

My career ended in 2011, but I still had that competitive spirit in me. That summer, while I was looking for a new career, my wife and I started looking at some gyms around our area in Atlanta. We looked at a gym called Adrenaline and I was the one who liked it and stayed. I did some classes like swift that were made up of all stations. Melissa wanted me to check out the hot new thing they had which was called CrossFit. I peeked my head in that area and saw what was probably kipping or butterfly pull ups. I thought it looked crazy and just went back to my thing, even though, Melissa kept trying to get me to try CrossFit.

In 2014, we moved back to St. Louis and in 2015 we moved into our house here in New Town. A few months went by and Melissa was like, hey they have that CrossFit gym over here, we should try this out. She ended up joining around October 2015, but I was not convinced of the whole thing. I ended up meeting many of the members at the Christmas party and did like what I was hearing about the gym. Well, I did some of the Fat Burning classes with Rochelle when she offered a special package to New Town residents. Melissa signed me up for foundations and here we go!!

I joined about 3-4 weeks before the 2016 open. Of course, I signed up for the open because I was told to do burpees at the beginning of each class if we weren’t signed up. BEST THING EVER!!! It was a blast doing the open, not that I was going to Carson, but to see how well I would do. Those workouts really showed me the spirit of what this sport is about. You may not lift the most weight, you may not be the best runner, and you may not be the athlete you once were. That does not matter once you walk through those doors at CrossFit TNT. Everyone is there is to help you reach whatever goal you put up on the board. Though it is nice to compare and have the best time or the most reps for the workout that day, it is about you competing against yourself to be the best that you can be. I know that, no matter what my day is like I always look forward to being at this gym. If you really know me you know that I cannot stop talking about, posting about, or thinking about CrossFit!
