Saint Charles Teen Shines in Worldwide CrossFit Competition

Saint Charles, MO- Orchard Farm High School freshman Ashley Schroeder dedicates every day of her life to being one of the fittest athletes in the world. During the recently completed CrossFit Games Open, a competition that attracts hundreds of thousands of athletes from across the globe, she was able to prove she is indeed one of the best CrossFitters in the sport today. The ultimate goal for Schroeder is to qualify for the Reebok CrossFit Games and compete for the title of “Fittest on Earth” in the 14-15 year old Teens division.

At just 15 years old, she is one of the youngest competitors in the annual five-week event which takes place across thousands of gyms in over one hundred countries. In the 14-15 year old age group, Schroeder finished 12th out of over 1,500 females and will advance to the Online Qualifier competition being held April 19-23. The top 200 females from the CrossFit Games Open will compete during this period to find the best 20 athletes who will advance to the pinnacle event of the sport, the Reebok CrossFit Games. The CrossFit Games take place in Madison, WI from August 1-5 and features the most elite CrossFit competitors from countries around the world.

“I can’t put into words what it would mean for me to make it,” Schroeder said of her opportunity to compete in the CrossFit Games. “I want to inspire people and show that hard work pays off. I want the people around me to be inspired by what I do; I want them to desire to add fitness to their lives. I want to help shape the meaning of fitness in the future. Going out there and achieving my goal of making it to the 2018 CrossFit Games I hope would motivate others to go and join a CrossFit Affiliate and change their lives.”

Starting her CrossFit journey at the age of seven, Schroeder tried her hand at gymnastics, soccer, and other sports while continuously coming back to CrossFit as the best way to maintain a high level of fitness. Several years ago she began an intensive daily training program with Rochelle Thayer, Owner and Coach at CrossFit TNT in Saint Charles, MO. If she advances to the CrossFit Games at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI this August, Schroeder will be the second athlete in the facilities history to advance to the championship event (Thayer being the only other).

The Online Qualifier will consist of four different workouts in a five day period. Schroeder will complete all of her workouts at CrossFit TNT in Saint Charles. Much like the CrossFit Games Open, the Online Qualifier challenges athletes mental and physical prowess with max lifts, high-skill movements, and tests of general physical preparedness.
